Japanese machines are built to run for decades, and most of them do - a Kubota tractor, a Hino or Isuzu truck, a Kobelco or Hitachi excavator keeps working long after the warranty and far from the market it was built for. The emission hardware is a different story. A soot counter that keeps asking for a parked regeneration, an EGR valve full of carbon, an AdBlue module counting down to limp mode on a site with no dealer within 500 km - that is what brings these machines to a workshop.
This guide maps which Japanese engine uses which control unit, and which machines carry that engine - including the many European and American brands that run on Kubota, Isuzu, Hino and Yanmar engines. Every ECU named here is one we hold files for. The counts in the tables are live pages in our solutions database, and Japanese makes are a real part of our work: about 13 % of all the files we deliver are for Japanese trucks, machines and pickups.
Key facts at a glance
- Two names cover almost every Japanese diesel ECU: Denso (Kubota, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso, Kobelco, Toyota, many Isuzu) and Transtron (every Isuzu engine - in Isuzu trucks and in Hitachi, CASE, Link-Belt, Sumitomo and John Deere excavators).
- Over 830 software versions for Denso and Transtron units on trucks and machines are published in our database - plus 2 700 more for Japanese motorcycle and marine ECUs.
- The engine tells you the ECU, not the badge. A Bobcat, a Takeuchi and a Manitou with a Kubota V3800 run the same Denso unit; a Hitachi ZX210, a CASE CX210 and a Link-Belt 210X with an Isuzu 4HK1 run the same Transtron.
- Main families: Denso SH7058 / SH7059 / SH7055 (about 2003-2012), Denso SH7254x / SH725x / R5F72546R (2010 onwards), Denso Gen2 1N83M, Denso DC1U (Kohler KDI engines), Transtron 4HK1 / 4JJ1 / 6HK1.
- Japanese badge, non-Japanese ECU: Komatsu (Cummins and Bosch), most Mitsubishi Fuso Canters (Bosch), UD Trucks (TRW, as on Volvo), Kubota L60 and MX (Bosch EDC17). We cover those too.
- Prices start at 70 EUR for EGR off, 85 EUR for DPF off, 180 EUR for AdBlue off and 95 EUR for Stage 1 - the exact figure depends on the ECU and is shown in the file service.
- Hino dealer files: if you have Hino Diagnostic eXplorer 3 (DX3), send us the dealer package it reads - we modify it and rebuild it so DX3 writes it back. How it works.
Why Japanese machinery needs its own guide
On paper Japanese machinery looks simple: a handful of big manufacturers, long model cycles, conservative engineering. In the workshop it is less simple, for three reasons.
1. The engine makers sell to everybody
Kubota, Isuzu, Yanmar and Hino are not only vehicle brands - they are some of the biggest independent diesel engine suppliers in the world. A Kubota V2403 or V3800 powers Kubota tractors and loaders, but also Bobcat, Takeuchi, Manitou, Dieci, Hyster and Yale machines. An Isuzu 4HK1 or 6HK1 sits in Hitachi, CASE, Link-Belt, Sumitomo, Hidromek, Sany and John Deere excavators. Hino J05 and J08 engines power Kobelco and New Holland excavators. Yanmar TNV engines are in Takeuchi, Yanmar and many compact machines.
The ECU follows the engine. In our database the same software version often lists several makes at once - a Denso SH7058 file for a Kubota-engined loader is the same whether the machine is painted orange, yellow or white. So the rule is: identify the engine and the ECU, not the machine.
2. Denso and Transtron - and why "Hitachi" is not an ECU here
Denso supplies the engine control units for Kubota, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso's Denso-era engines, Toyota and most older Isuzu units. Transtron - Isuzu's own electronics company - supplies the ECU for every current Isuzu diesel, and therefore for every machine with an Isuzu engine.
A frequent mix-up: customers write "Hitachi ECU" for a Hitachi excavator. Hitachi does make engine control units (Hitachi Astemo), but those are mostly in petrol Nissan, Infiniti, Renault and Subaru cars. A Hitachi ZX excavator runs a Transtron if it has an Isuzu engine, a Cummins CM2350 on the ZW wheel loaders, and a Bosch EDC17CV52 on some wheeled models. The same applies to Kobelco: the ECU is Denso (Hino engine), Transtron (Isuzu engine) or Bosch (Yanmar engine), never "Kobelco".
3. Japanese badge, non-Japanese ECU
Do not assume Denso just because the machine is Japanese:
- Komatsu engines come from the Komatsu-Cummins partnership: Cummins CM2350 / CM2250 / CM850, plus Bosch EDC17CV41 / CV44 / CV54. See our Komatsu Forest article.
- Mitsubishi Fuso Canter - Bosch EDC16C31, EDC17CP15 / CP52 / C49, EDC17CV54, MD1CC878; heavy Fuso with Mercedes engines use Continental MCM/ACM (article).
- UD Trucks Condor and Quon - TRW EMS2.2, EMS2.3 and EMS2.4, the Volvo group platform (article).
- Kubota L60 and MX - Bosch EDC17C55 / EDC17CV45. Yanmar Tier 4 final engines - mostly Bosch EDC17CV54. Isuzu Giga Euro 6 - Bosch MD1CE108.

Pickups, SUVs and vans
Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser, Isuzu D-Max and MU-X, Mitsubishi L200 / Triton and Pajero, Nissan Navara and Patrol, Mazda BT-50 - the workhorses of Africa, the Middle East, Australia and Latin America - are a large share of our Japanese work. Toyota uses Denso (NEC and Gen3 RH850), Mitsubishi Denso SH7058 / SH7059 / SH725x, Isuzu Transtron on the 3.0 4JJ3 and Bosch MD1 on the 1.9, Nissan and Mazda a mix. They get their own guide: Japanese pickups ECU guide.
The ECU families in detail
Denso SH7055 / SH7058 / SH7059
The workhorse generation - Renesas SuperH processors, roughly 2003 to 2012, Euro 4 / Tier 3 to early Euro 5 / Tier 4 interim. If the machine has a common-rail Japanese diesel from that period, this is the most likely ECU.
- Where: Hino 300 / 500 / 700 and Ranger, Isuzu N- and F-series, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 6M60 and Fighter, Kubota tractors and loaders, Kobelco SK170-SK350 with Hino engines, Hyundai HD65 / HD72 / HD78 / County, Nissan Atlas and Cabstar, Renault Maxity, Toyota Coaster, GMC W3500 / C7500 with Isuzu engines, Cat compact machines, Mitsubishi L200 and Pajero.
- In our database: SH7058 - 263 versions, SH7059 - 22, SH7055 - 6.

- Typical jobs: DPF off together with the soot counter and the service (parked) regeneration request - the most common Kubota M Series request we get; EGR off; AdBlue off on M7 and bigger engines.
Denso Gen2 1N83M (MPC5746R)
Denso's newer platform with a PowerPC-type MPC5746R processor - Euro 6 / Stage V. Often paired with a separate AdBlue module (ACM / DCU17), which then has to be read as well.
- Where: latest Isuzu NPR / NQR, Hino, Manitou MH 4.6, Kobelco, Hyundai, XCMG cranes and trucks, JCB, Merlo, Ashok Leyland.
- In our database: 1N83M - 53 versions.
- Typical prices: Isuzu - DPF 160 EUR, EGR 105 EUR, AdBlue 270 EUR, Stage 1 160 EUR; machines with ACM DCU17 - DPF 180 EUR, EGR 105 EUR, AdBlue 280-320 EUR. Bigger flash, separate AdBlue unit, more checks - which is why it costs more than the SH705x generation.
Denso DC1U - Kohler KDI engines
Kohler's KDI diesels (built in Italy, 1.9 to 3.4 litre) are controlled by a Denso DC1U. Because KDI engines are sold to dozens of OEMs, the same ECU turns up in very different machines.
- Where: JCB 407SV, 525-60 Loadall and 85Z; Merlo P27.6 and 30.8; Avant 755i / 860i; Iseki SF237 and TEL3410H; McCormick X2 / X3; Massey Ferguson 1835; John Deere 5075E; Durso, Rotair, TR, Powergrab; GNR and Megasilent gensets.

Details per model in the pickups guide.
Keihin, Mitsubishi Electric, Hitachi Astemo
The other Japanese ECU makers are mostly outside diesel machinery. Keihin (1 046 versions) and Mitsubishi Electric (637) are on Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph and KTM motorcycles, quads and outboards - covered in our motorcycle, ATV and UTV guide. Hitachi Astemo controls petrol Nissan, Infiniti, Renault and Subaru engines. Denso also makes the Volvo VEA engine units - see Volvo Denso VEA Gen2.

By vehicle type
Light and medium trucks
Isuzu Elf / NPR / NQR, Hino 300 / Dutro, Fuso Canter and Hyundai HD are delivery and municipal trucks: short trips, idling, low exhaust temperature. The DPF clogs, the truck asks for a parked regeneration that never finishes, and the EGR cooler fills with carbon. DPF and EGR off with the regeneration logic and the soot counter disabled is the standard job; on newer Isuzu and Hino with a separate AdBlue unit we also need the DCU read. Brand guides: Isuzu, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso and UD.
Buses
Toyota Coaster and Hino buses (Denso SH7058), Isuzu Novo and Visigo (Transtron, Denso SH7059, Cummins CM2350 on the 4.5 / 6.7 ISB), Hyundai County (Denso). Fleets usually ask for EGR and DPF off plus an ECO file rather than more power.
Tractors and compact equipment
Kubota is the big one: the M Series with V3800 and V6108 engines (DPF, EGR and on bigger models AdBlue), L and B / BX with V2403 (DPF and EGR), SVL track loaders. The usual complaint is a DPF that keeps asking for service regeneration - we switch off the regeneration and the soot counter together with the filter, so the request does not come back. See the Kubota guide.
Excavators and loaders
Hitachi, CASE, Link-Belt and Sumitomo excavators with Isuzu engines (Transtron), Kobelco with Hino engines (Denso SH7058), Takeuchi with Kubota and Yanmar engines, Komatsu with Cummins and Bosch. Stage V machines often have a separate AdBlue DCU. See the Japanese construction machines guide.
Gensets and stationary engines
Kohler KDI gensets (Denso DC1U), Cat 2.2 gensets (Denso A6E10), Isuzu-powered generators (Transtron). Usually an EGR / DPF job plus selective fault codes.
What we do for workshops
We are a file service for professional workshops and tuners: you read the ECU, we modify the file, you write it. We do not work with end customers and we do not sell hardware.
| Solution | What is actually done | Typical price on Japanese machines |
|---|---|---|
| DPF / DOC off | Regeneration strategy, soot model and soot counter switched off, the service (parked) regeneration request removed, the related monitors and codes disabled, pressure and temperature sensor handling adapted. | 85 EUR (Transtron) - 95 EUR (Hino) - 120 EUR (Kubota) - 160-180 EUR (1N83M, DC1U, Cat) |
| EGR off | Valve closed in software with the monitoring disabled, so there is no fault code and no derate. Keep the valve plugged in; if its electrical part is dead, block it with a plate as well. | 70-120 EUR |
| AdBlue / SCR off | Dosing, NOx monitoring, the inducement countdown and the related codes switched off. Where the AdBlue system has its own module (Denso 1N83M + ACM DCU17, Isuzu Grafter DCU, Kubota M Series and Yanmar dumper DCU, UD with TRW ACM) both units are usually needed. | 180-320 EUR |
| AdBlue reduction | Where the system must stay active but consumption is the problem: dosing reduced, system still working. Same price as AdBlue off - say so in the order. How it works. | same as AdBlue off |
| Stage 1 / ECO | Same position in the price list, two goals. Stage 1 adds power and torque; an ECO file keeps the stock power band and improves consumption under load. State which one you want. | 95-160 EUR |
| Selective DTC off | You give us the codes (P-codes or SPN / FMI), we disable exactly those. We decoded the fault-code tables of the Hino Denso and Transtron units ourselves, so a code is switched off in every table where it lives - not just hidden. | 40-80 EUR |
| Hino DX3 dealer files | You read the ECU with Hino Diagnostic eXplorer 3 and send the whole dealer package. We modify the firmware and rebuild the package so DX3 accepts and writes it. Details. | as the chosen options |
| Extras | Speed limiter, RPM limit, throttle valve, swirl flaps, readiness monitors, smoke-test pass, checksum correction, back to original. | 30-105 EUR each |
Two control units, one job. On Stage V machines and the newest trucks the AdBlue system often has its own module. Attach both reads to the order, and clear every AdBlue warning and countdown before writing the file - a stored inducement state is the most common reason a finished file still shows warnings.
Prices above are indicative ranges from our current price list. The exact figure for your machine is shown in the file service and on the version page in the solutions database.
How to read the ECU and order the file
Step 1 - identify the unit, not the machine
- Read the label on the ECU. Denso units carry a Denso number (275700-xxxx, 275800-xxxx, 112500-xxxx) and often the vehicle maker's part number - Hino and Toyota 89661- / 89663-xxxxx, Kubota 1J- / 1G-xxxxx, Isuzu 8-98xxxxxx-x. Transtron units show Transtron and the Isuzu part number.
- Or let the tool identify it. Once connected, the tool reports the ECU type and the software number.
- Search the software number in our solutions database. If the version is listed, you see the vehicles it belongs to and the price for that file.
Step 2 - read it properly
- Tools: we work with reads from Alientech KESS3 and K-TAG, New Genius, Magic FLEX, CMD, FGTech, PCMflash and other common tools. Tell us which tool you have and we will tell you which read to send.
- Bench or boot: some of these units read on the bench, others only in boot mode. Follow your tool's connection diagram for the exact ECU.
- Hino with DX3: if you have the dealer tool, the dealer package it reads is enough - see how.
- Use a stable power supply. A dropping battery during a write is how ECUs get bricked.
- Always keep the original read, with the VIN or serial, engine number and software ID. If the file was already modified by someone else, tell us and send the original if you have it.
Step 3 - order at fs.auto-remap.com
- Log in or create a free workshop account. No subscription, you pay per file.
- Start a new order and pick the brand. Mind the spelling we use: Mitsubishi Fuso (not Mitsubishi) for trucks, UD Truck for UD, Isuzu for trucks, buses and pickups. For a machine with a Japanese engine, pick the machine brand (CASE, Link-Belt, JCB) and the ECU type.
- Select the model, engine and ECU type - this is what sets the price.
- Upload the read (and the AdBlue module read if there is one), tick the options and write what matters in the comment: Stage 1 or ECO, AdBlue off or reduction, which codes to disable, whether the DPF is already removed.
- Receive the modified file, ready to write. Support stays open until the machine runs clean.
Version not in the list? Send the read anyway. Much of our Japanese database was built from reads sent in by workshops, and new versions are usually added the same day.
Frequently asked questions
Which ECU does my Kubota have?
Almost always a Denso: SH7058 on older common-rail models, SH725x / SH7254x / R5F72546R on Tier 4 and Stage V tractors and loaders (B, BX, L, M, M7, SVL). The exceptions are the L60 and MX series with Bosch EDC17C55 or EDC17CV45. Check the label or let your tool identify it.
Is Transtron the same as Denso?
No. Transtron is Isuzu's own electronics company and controls Isuzu engines - in Isuzu trucks and in the many excavators that use Isuzu engines (Hitachi, CASE, Link-Belt, Sumitomo, John Deere, Kobelco SK130 / SK140). Older Isuzu trucks may have a Denso instead. Both are covered.
Which ECU is in my Hitachi excavator?
It depends on the engine, not on Hitachi. ZX excavators with Isuzu 4JJ1, 4HK1, 6HK1, 6UZ1 or 6WG1 engines run a Transtron; ZW wheel loaders with Cummins QSB6.7 or QSL9 run a Cummins CM2350; some wheeled models run a Bosch EDC17CV52. There is no "Hitachi" engine ECU on these machines.
Komatsu is Japanese - why Cummins and Bosch?
Komatsu's engines come from its partnership with Cummins, so they carry Cummins CM2250, CM2350 and CM850 control units; other models use Bosch EDC17CV41, CV44 or CV54. Our Cummins and Bosch experience applies directly.
Can you work with Hino dealer files read by DX3?
Yes. If you have Hino Diagnostic eXplorer 3, read the ECU with it and send us the whole dealer package. We modify the firmware and rebuild the package with every file in the size DX3 expects, so DX3 writes it back like a dealer update. This works on Hino trucks and on Kobelco machines with Hino engines.
Why does a 1N83M cost more than an SH7058?
The 1N83M is the newer Denso Gen2 platform for Euro 6 and Stage V: bigger software, more monitors, and often a separate AdBlue module that has to be handled as well. The SH7058 generation is older and simpler.
My Kubota keeps asking for a parked regeneration. Can that be removed?
Yes. With DPF off we disable the regeneration strategy, the soot model and the soot counter, and the service regeneration request with them. The DPF can then be emptied or replaced with a straight pipe.
The AdBlue system has its own control unit. What do I send?
Both reads - the engine ECU and the AdBlue module (DCU / ACM). This applies to Isuzu Grafter and newer N-series, Kubota M Series, Yanmar dumpers, machines with Denso 1N83M + ACM DCU17 and UD trucks with TRW ACM.
Do you do AdBlue reduction instead of a full delete?
Yes, at the same price as AdBlue off. It keeps the SCR system working with lower consumption. Mention it in the order.
Stage 1 or ECO?
The same price position with different targets. Stage 1 adds power and torque; an ECO file keeps the stock power band and improves consumption - what most fleets and contractors ask for.
Which tools can I use to read these ECUs?
Alientech KESS3 and K-TAG, New Genius, Magic FLEX, CMD, FGTech, PCMflash and other common tools. Some units read on the bench, others only in boot mode. For Hino, a dealer package from DX3 works too.
