TVA / swirl flaps off: intake flap and throttle actuator monitoring in the ECU
Many diesel engines have swirl flaps in the intake manifold and a throttle valve actuator (TVA) that the ECU controls and monitors. Swirl flap spindles wear, the actuators fail, and on some engines a broken flap can be swallowed by the engine. Workshops often remove or blank the flaps — after that the ECU must stop monitoring them.
Typical problems
- Worn or broken swirl flaps — risk of serious engine damage.
- Failed swirl or TVA actuator / position sensor — P2004–P2015, P02E0–P02E9 and similar.
- Limp mode after flap removal because the ECU still expects movement.
What we do in the file
- Swirl flap control and monitoring disabled after mechanical removal or blanking.
- TVA (intake throttle) monitoring disabled or adapted where the part is removed.
- Related DTCs removed; engine maps unchanged unless Stage 1 is ordered.
Supported vehicles
BMW, Mercedes, VAG, Ford, PSA, Renault, Fiat, Opel and other diesel engines with Bosch EDC16/EDC17/MD1, Siemens/Continental SID, Delphi DCM and others.
How to order
Register in the AUTO-REMAP file service, upload the original read of the ECU, tick TVA / swirl / flaps together with any other options you need, and download the modified file — usually within minutes, complex ECUs within working hours. Checksums are corrected automatically.
