A stopped Liebherr costs money every hour. An SCR fault on a crane, excavator or loader can take the engine down to a fraction of its torque within a single shift, and the machine then waits for parts, a dealer visit or a service reset. Workshops looking after these machines need a working answer quickly, and LiDEC controllers are not something most tuners deal with every week.
We work with them regularly. AUTO-REMAP makes files for the LiDEC family for tuners and workshops: full emissions deactivation, selective DTC OFF, Stage 1 and ECO. You read the ECU, upload the file, tick the options on our file service and write back the result. Our site already lists 94 LiDEC software versions, and that is only part of what we have worked on.
The short version
- Controllers: LiDEC ECU1 (LIDEC1), ECU2 and ECU2-HD, listed under Motorola, Motorola/Cummins and sometimes Bosch.
- Machines: Liebherr excavators, wheel loaders, material handlers, dozers, dumpers, cranes and drilling rigs, plus Krone, John Deere and Claas machines with Liebherr engines.
- Options: DPF, EGR, SCR / AdBlue, Stage 1 or ECO, selective DTC OFF, checksum correction and restore to original.
- Reading: plan on direct access to the ECU (boot or open mode), not a simple OBD connection. Check your tool's current list.
- Speed: listed solutions normally take 1–3 hours. A version we have not seen yet can still be ordered: send the read.
- For whom: a file service for professional tuners and workshops.
Why these machines stop
The clearest picture is in Liebherr's own SCR parts kit service manual from Liebherr-Werk Nenzing. It says an SCR error has to be rectified within 200 operating minutes, and it sets out four warning levels. The codes below are the ones it lists for a falling urea level:

| Level | Code | Operating time | What the engine does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | P1187 | 0–60 min | Warning on the monitor, no power reduction |
| 2 | P1188 | 60–170 min | Maximum torque 75 % |
| 3 | P1189 | 170–200 min | Torque falls from 75 % to a maximum of 20 %, speed limited to 60 % of nominal |
| 4 | P1190 | From 200 min | Same reduction stays active; a one-time repair by the customer is possible, then only Liebherr service personnel can reset the error |
Other Liebherr product lines can differ in detail, but workshops describe the same problem. Three hours and twenty minutes of operation is not long on a site. A failed pump, injector, NOx or NH3 sensor, temperature sensor, heated line or tank sensor, or a part on back order, can leave a machine that is on hire or on a deadline barely able to work.
Find the cause first. Check the urea level, the plugs and the wiring before you order anything, and read the stored codes with your diagnostic tool. Liebherr's own troubleshooting software is LiDIA. If the real fault is outside the aftertreatment system, a file will not cure it.
LiDEC ECU1, ECU2 and ECU2-HD
LiDEC is the engine control family used on Liebherr's own diesel engines. Liebherr describes the ECU2-HD as handling engine and exhaust aftertreatment together, so the SCR strategy lives in the engine controller. Tool lists and price lists name these units in several ways, which causes confusion. The software string in your read is the most reliable guide:
| Controller | Names you may see | Typical software string | Our version list |
|---|---|---|---|
| ECU1 | LIDEC1, Motorola LIDEC1, Motorola/Cummins LIDEC1, Bosch LIDEC1 | Part numbers plus the engine, for example 8RZ50T UJ02UJ6 D924 | LIDEC1 |
| ECU2 | LIDEC ECU2, LIDEC2, Motorola/Cummins LIDEC ECU2 | D2MC_… plus the engine, for example D2MC_202151_218370 D936 | ECU2, Motorola/Cummins ECU2 |
| ECU2-HD | LIDEC ECU2HD, ECU2HD | D1MC_… plus the engine, for example D1MC_211713_320491 D944 | ECU2-HD |
Liebherr also lists a newer ECU3. If you have one, send us the read and we will confirm what can be done before you order.
Not every Liebherr has a LiDEC. Smaller and bought-in engines use other controllers. In our list, Liebherr models also appear with Bosch EDC17CV41, EDC17CV52, EDC17CV54 and MD1CC878, Phoenix L-series, and Continental MCM21 with ACM2. See all Liebherr software versions.

What reads them
For most tools, LiDEC is not a job done through the diagnostic socket. Plan on direct access to the ECU. This is what tool makers publish:
| Tool | What the maker states |
|---|---|
| Dimsport New Trasdata | Read and write in open mode on LiDEC ECU2, with the Krone BiG M 450 as its example |
| Alientech KESS3 | Alientech's vehicle list showed LiDEC ECU2 by boot, and LIDEC2 as coming soon, when we last checked in May 2026 |
Tool support changes with every update, so check the current list in your own tool before you start. Other equipment may support these units too. Whichever you use, keep the complete original read and send us the file exactly as your tool saved it. If you need a reference file, look in our original LiDEC files.
Which emissions hardware is on the machine
Liebherr uses one engine architecture with different aftertreatment for each emissions stage. That decides which options make sense on the machine in front of you:
| Emissions stage | System | Options usually relevant |
|---|---|---|
| Stage IIIA | EGR | EGR OFF |
| Stage IV / Tier 4 Final | SCRonly: SCR without DOC, DPF or EGR | SCR / AdBlue OFF |
| Stage V | SCRFilter: DOC, SCR and an SCR-coated particulate filter | DPF OFF and SCR / AdBlue OFF |
Treat this as a guide. The software carries DPF and EGR fault codes across the family, and we see those codes in our files. Tell us what is actually fitted and which codes the machine is showing, and we will match the file to it.
Each option in brief

DPF OFF
Soot and particulate filter monitoring, regeneration requests, and the exhaust flap and exhaust temperature monitoring tied to the filter are taken out of the ECU's logic, together with their fault codes. It suits machines with a blocked or damaged filter and machines that idle for long periods.
EGR OFF
The EGR valve and EGR management faults are removed from the ECU's logic, so an EGR fault stops bringing the machine down.
SCR / AdBlue OFF
This is the option most machines come to us for. Dosing and SCR monitoring are switched off in the ECU, the warning levels and torque reduction described above no longer apply, and the codes for the pump, heated lines, tank level, NOx and NH3 sensors are removed. Reset all values with your diagnostic tool before you write the modified file. We strongly recommend ordering DPF and EGR deactivation with it, so that the full chain of related codes is covered.
The machine runs with the SCR hardware removed. With the SCR / AdBlue OFF file the machine keeps working after the SCR hardware has been taken off, and no emulator is needed.
Stage 1
More power and torque, within the limits of the standard hardware and matched to the machine. Results depend on the engine and the software version, so we tell you what to expect once we have seen the read. It can be ordered in the same file as SCR OFF.
ECO tuning
The ECO file keeps the factory power band and lowers fuel consumption at cruising load. It is ordered through the same option as Stage 1: state in the order description which one you want. It is worth considering on machines that run long shifts.
Selective DTC OFF
Send us the exact codes and we switch off those and leave the rest of the diagnostics alone. The code your diagnostic tool shows, such as P1187, is what we work from, so a clear list is all we need.
Checksum correction and restore to original
The checksum is corrected on the files we deliver. Both are also available separately: checksum correction for your own modified file, and restoring a modified file back to original.
Options can be combined in one file. The file service shows the options and the current price for your machine when you order.
Why LiDEC needs real experience
These controllers are less forgiving of a generic approach than popular truck ECUs:
- Several generations. The internal layout of the fault tables changes between generations, even where the machine name stays the same. We have worked through these differences file by file.
- A very large number of codes. The biggest files carry more than 1,000 different fault codes in about 1,400 entries, and one code can act in several places in the file. Removing it in one place can leave the reaction active, so the fault returns or the machine stays limited.
- Most codes are Liebherr's own. Open OBD references cover only a small part of them. We keep our own database with descriptions of about 500 LiDEC codes, grouped by SCR, DPF and EGR.
- Checked on real files. Our work has been compared with real stock and modified pairs from machines such as R976HD, R966, R926, PR746 and LTM1100, as well as Krone BiG X.
For you this means the job is done on your own read, for your exact software version, and not by copying a file from a similar machine. Two machines sharing a controller can carry different maps, limits and diagnostics.
How to order
- Read the ECU and save the complete original. Note the codes the machine is showing.
- Register on the AUTO-REMAP file service and choose the make, model and engine.
- Upload the read and tick the options. For Stage 1 or ECO, state which one you want. List any specific codes in the description.
- Download the modified file, reset the values as noted above and write the file back with your tool.
- Not sure about the controller or version? Send us the read on WhatsApp or Telegram, especially if a machine is standing and the customer is waiting.
FAQ
Which LiDEC controllers do you work with?
LiDEC ECU1 (LIDEC1), ECU2 and ECU2-HD, including units listed as Motorola, Motorola/Cummins or Bosch. For a newer ECU3, send the read and we will confirm what can be done.
Which machines are covered?
Liebherr excavators, wheel loaders, material handlers, dozers, dumpers, cranes and drilling rigs with D924 to D9512 engines, plus Krone BiG X and BiG M, John Deere 9000-series forage harvesters and Claas Torion.
Can it be read by OBD?
Plan on direct access to the ECU. Dimsport states open mode for New Trasdata on ECU2, and Alientech has listed ECU2 by boot for KESS3. Check the current list in your own tool.
The machine is already in reduced power. What can you do?
Liebherr's service manual describes a reduction to 75 % and then 20 % torque within 200 operating minutes. Read the ECU, upload the file and order SCR / AdBlue OFF, ideally with DPF and EGR. Listed solutions normally take 1–3 hours.
Does the machine run with the SCR hardware removed? Do I need an emulator?
Yes, it runs. With our SCR / AdBlue OFF file no emulator is needed.
Which options do I need on my machine?
It depends on the emissions stage. Stage IIIA machines use EGR, Stage IV and Tier 4 Final use SCR only, and Stage V uses SCR with a particulate filter. Tell us what is fitted and which codes are showing.
Do you offer Stage 1 and ECO?
Yes. Stage 1 adds power and torque within the limits of the standard hardware. ECO keeps the factory power band and lowers fuel consumption at cruising load. State your choice in the order.
My software version is not on your list. Can you still do it?
Yes. The list is only part of what we have worked on. Create an order and send the original read, and we will check it.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the machine and the options. The file service shows the current price for your machine when you order.
