Reading and writing with HP Tuners
Most of our customers on these controllers work with HP Tuners — MPVI2+, MPVI3 or MPVI4 with VCM Suite. We work with .hpt files natively: send the file exactly as VCM Editor saved it and you get a .hpt back, ready to write. No conversion, no hex editor, nothing to install on your side.
HP Tuners covers the E98 through the MPVI interface with VCM Suite and licenses the vehicle for 4 credits — no send-in service, no unlock queue, which is most of the reason a job on this controller costs roughly half of what the 3.0L and 6.6L cost. EFILive supports the E98 as well. Bench reading on the MPC5674F is straightforward and the pinouts for both BAM and bench modes are widely published.

Technical notes — ACDelco E98
The E98 is the Delphi controller for the 2.8L Duramax LWN, and the same hardware family carries GM's European 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 CDTI diesels. It is built on a Freescale MPC5674F and needs no unlock service, which is the whole reason a full delete here lands near 260 € rather than 450 €. One quirk is worth planning for: on the Colorado and Canyon the dash messages are harder to clear than on the bigger Duramax controllers, and a reset file is usually needed after the delete rather than a simple code clear — tell us when you order and it comes with the job. The package covers DPF, EGR and SCR/AdBlue together with the related DTCs, glow-plug and swirl-flap monitoring where present, and checksum correction. Thirteen operating systems are covered, split between the 24000xxx and the 555xxxxx series. In practice the 2.8 LWN is a high-mileage fleet engine and the usual trigger for this job is a DPF that will no longer regenerate somewhere past 150 000 miles, where a replacement costs several times the tune.

- Do I need to send my original file, or do you have a ready one?
- Send your own original file. Every truck carries its own calibration data and VIN-linked parameters, so we modify your file rather than shipping a generic one.
- How long does it take?
- 1 to 3 hours during service hours. Most orders come back inside the first hour, and even a brand-new operating system that we have never seen is covered within 3 hours.
- Which tools can read and write this controller?
- HP Tuners MPVI with VCM Suite (4 credits), EFILive, or a bench read on the MPC5674F. Send whichever file your tool produced.
- Will the dashboard warnings disappear after the delete?
- Yes. On this controller the cluster clears normally once the modified file is written and the codes are cleared — no special ordering of the steps is required.
- Do you supply DAMOS or map packs so I can tune it myself?
- Yes, for any operating system of this controller. A pack typically contains 60 000 to 90 000 unique described maps — torque structure, injection, rail pressure, boost, air mass, EGR, aftertreatment, limiters and diagnostics. It comes as an OLS project, or as OLSX locked to your WinOLS ID; on request we build an XDF for your own software instead.
- Can you do Stage 2 or a custom file for a hybrid turbo?
- Yes. Stage 2 covers a truck with bolt-on hardware; Stage 3 is a full custom calibration built around a hybrid or upgraded turbocharger, uprated injectors and a built transmission. Air mass, boost targets, injection angle, rail pressure and the torque limiters are rebuilt for your combination rather than scaled from the stock file.
